Asia Pacific Adventures

When I first started at Ogilvy, our Digital Influence team was an average-sized practice scattered across a few time zones. Now, as the sun sets on the second quarter of 2010, Ogilvy Digital Influence is a large network of experts from around the globe. An all-hands-on-deck staff meeting requires a NASA-powered satellite up-link.

All of this global growth comes with, well, global opportunities. For me this means closing up shop here in Washington and heading half way around the globe to Ogilvy, Hong Kong. In just a few days, I’ll be saying goodbye to the nation’s capital and moving to Hong Kong in an effort to help grow Ogilvy’s digital practice in Asia.

Regular readers of the blog may notice a dip in the frequency of my posts though I’ll now be regular contributor to the Asia Digital Map – Ogilvy’s DI blog in Asia. I’ll be working alongside some of the best minds in digital in Asia, colleagues like Thomas Crampton and Brian Giesen, along with a deep bench of talent from across the region’s 20+ offices.

Personally, I couldn’t be more excited about the move; it’s really a testament to the perks of working in a global agency as well as tremendous potential for our industry across Asia Pacific.

If you’re interested in the region I can highly recommend two fantastic resources to quickly get smart about the digital landscape across Asia.

  1. The Singapore Management University Digital Media Wiki – this is an incredible resource and hands down one of the best public wikis I’ve ever seen. I’m so lucky to have found this site. It’s been invaluable as I try to figure out the most popular search engine in Indonesia or read up on dominate social network in China.
  2. Fresh off the presses from the Asia Digital Marketing Association, the 2010 Asia Yearbook (free download) This is one gigantic report that’s read by everyone who needs to stay on top of what’s happening online in Asia.

I’ll be off the grid for a few days as I make the the move, but look out for new content from me soon on the Asia Digital Map!

In the meantime, I leave you with an awesome time lapse video from my new home (hat tip: @serenamay)
