Facebook often has the luxury of refining ideas that have been around a while and that is what I predict for payments over Facebook. People are already comfortable with entering their credit card info on websites so payments on Facebook won’t seem like a huge leap; here I will review a few of the most recent trends in currency and the opportunities for brands.

The Ad Council and Google DC recently held its latest Seminar Series briefing, Online Contests: A New Way to Raise Awareness and Engage Audiences! The content was pretty 101 for anyone who’s been a Facebook Page administrator but several panelists and attendees offered great tips for video contests; I’ve compiled them below with attribution.

For PR Week Labs a few weeks ago I recorded a 15 minute presentation on 5 Steps to Conversation Management. Conversation Management is an 360 Digital Influence program for helping our clients establish or manage social network presence with the dual goals of grassroots engagement and business impact. Based on a dual theory of influence, our team uses Conversation Management to promote advocacy on social networks like Facebook and Twitter. The steps are included below and you can watch the video here (for more videos check out our YouTube channel- this one was too long to be included).

I see posts on lots of social media blogs with weekly updates on the most successful Facebook Pages or types of Facebook Pages (example below) and they always include the same metric: number of fans (now called “Connections”). Likely this is because that number is the most public metric to compare but a little digging into the engagement on a Page came tell you a lot about its success.
You would never measure the success of a retailer by how many people entered the store or the success of a services company by how many people visit the website so why do people get to lazy with Facebook? Here are the metrics that really matter in a successful strategy and while fan count is one of them it may not be your most important. continue reading

A Content Management System (CMS) is one portal to post and edit content, monitor and respond to comments, and create interactive applications across multiple Facebook Pages, Twitter handles, or other communities. There are lots of options out there (e.g. Context Optional, Involver, Vitrue, Buddy Media, LiveWorld, Spriklr, Spreadfast, Media Funnel to name a few) and all of them service Facebook. If you’ve used Hootsuite or CoTweet imagine that but on steroids and just maybe worth paying for.

This weekend marks the beginning of summer but where I grew up (California) the school year didn’t end until mid-June so this week’s Facebook Friday looks a bit like a homework assignment. Facebook has evolved rapidly over the past six years of existence and so has it’s significance in everything from communications to government to people’s relationships. I’ve started a list of phrases to answer the question “What is Facebook?” and would like your help adding to it in the comments.
Facebook is…
Have a great weekend!

We often suggest Facebook advertising as an easy way to let your target audience know about your brand, your Page, or your campaigns. Advertising inside and outside of Facebook is especially important for acquiring new fans who may be new to your brand or your campaign, it catches those who wouldn’t see the promotions in store or on your website.
It can seem a bit complicated to new users and I’ve seen people compare it to Google’s keyword advertisements but it’s totally different. This post explains the basics of pricing, targeting, placement, and targeting for Facebook advertising.

The Facebook Friday is dedicated to the friends and family members who forwarded me petitions to “STOP Facebook Selling our Information!” and other misconceptions about what Facebook is calling the Instant Personalization Pilot Program.
Actually, I’m loving this new plugin: I get to find my uber-trendy friend’s music on Pandora and I get to see what my friends in international relations jobs think about a Washington Post oped on Iran. It’s awesome. But in case others prefer to turn it off or are looking for a basic guide on Privacy and Account settings I created this PowerPoint and put it on SlideShare for the world. continue reading

When I first read about a new work-around to add Google Analytics to Facebook Pages I was set to geek out and asked recent FBML experts Mike Mangi and Jay Marrow to help me set it up. I added it to our 360 DI Facebook Page and let it run for about five days.
Verdict: Nice to have but not need to have. Not worth the trouble for basic Pages but an easy lift to add to a custom Tab for campaign tracking. Details after the jump. continue reading
